The Argyle international Airport is the biggest project that our small Island, St. Vincent and the Grenadines have ever undergo. It is has been the most anticipated and talked about topic since its announcement in the year 2005. I think that most Vincentians were very excited and happy about the building of an international airport; on the other hand , many Vincentians doubt that this project was ever going to come off. Since its announcement there have been several due dates and delays . The government themselves underestimated how long and how much effort it would take to complete a project this big. However, due to the benefits and advantages of owning our very own international airport , I would proudly say that it is certainly worth the wait.
The Argyle international airport is set to be opened on the 14th of February 2017. This airport is exactly what St. Vincent and the Grenadines need to promote economic and social development.
Although a lot of people are now of the belief that the AIA is actually making SVG more economically unstable and would eventually result in a economic recession . The truth still remains that the country definitely needs to upgrade our air ways transportation . The AIA is expected to be that improvement, and that help we need to boast to our tourism industry. Also , this project will attract a lot of foreign investors to our mainland. More investors means that there would be more economic activities like more business places opening and job opportunities. The airport it self has already employed many Vincentians already. Yes the airport has cost us a fortune, $700millon to be exact; but with the help from different countries such as Venezuela and Cuba for example-- the island was given assistance with financing the construction of the airport.
We have all right to be a little concern, since its a big step and a major change, and for some people change is scary. But if we examine other Caribbean islands and see how they are benefiting from their international airport and how much we Vincentians depend and are happy to use their air ways for traveling to places like America , one would see that it would be a blessing to have one of our own.
